Hi Dave
You mentioned the other day you like Elgin bicycles and I have the coolest pre-war all-original Girls Elgin I`ll share. A friend of mine Ricardo who also collects Antique / Vintage bicycles gave me this bike because he`s running out of room to store it.
I haven`t done much research on it yet but theirs something about Elgin bicycles that draws my attention. I normally don`t collect girls’ bicycles but theirs something about this old bike I like. I believe it`s a 1935 serial # MOS 125344 Skip Tooth.
Below are some photos of my 1930 Girls Elgin bicycle. Take a look
Thanks Much, Dave Brown
A Word About Skip Tooth Chains
Many vintage bicycle collectors are looking for information about “Skip Tooth” Chains. Common questions are if they were any better, or if they were just a natural progression of bikes. Why don’t they still make them? Are they harder to find parts for? And what are they anyway?
In general, skip tooth chains have a different link/cog spacing. While a normal bike chain has a 1/2-inch pitch, the old skip tooth chain & cog had a 1-inch pitch.
If you want to learn a bit more about this old technology, you are invited to visit my article about skip tooth.
